Quantitative Reasoning
Problem solving across algebra and arithmetic. Geometry was removed in the Focus Edition, and no calculator is permitted.
Verbal Reasoning
Reading comprehension and critical reasoning. Sentence correction was removed in the Focus Edition.
Data Insights
Data sufficiency, multi-source reasoning, table analysis, graphics interpretation and two-part analysis. New as a scored section, and where most candidates are least prepared.

Scoring
How the GMAT is scored
205 to 805 in 10-point increments; each section scored 60 to 90. Valid for 5 years from the test date.

| 705 – 805 | Excellent. Competitive at top-tier global business schools. |
| 655 – 695 | Strong. Opens well-ranked MBA programmes. |
| 605 – 645 | Good. Meets the requirement at many solid schools. |
| 555 – 595 | Average. Workable with strong work experience. |
| Below 555 | Limits options at ranked programmes. |

Who accepts the GMAT
Used by more than 7,700 business school programmes worldwide for MBA, MS in Management, finance and analytics admission. Many schools now accept the GRE as an alternative, though the GMAT remains the expected test.

Preparation
How to prepare for the GMAT
Data Insights is the differentiator
It is newly scored and most candidates under-prepare for it. A strong Data Insights score lifts the total more efficiently than another few points in quant.
Choose your section order
You decide the order on test day. Most candidates open with their strongest section to build confidence and bank time.
You can edit three answers per section
Bookmark uncertain questions and return to them. Three edits per section is a real safety net the older format never gave you.
Eight attempts, lifetime
Five in any twelve months and eight in total, with a sixteen-day minimum gap. Treat each sitting as costly rather than as practice.
