Preparation
How to prepare for the PTE
The machine rewards fluency over accent
Scoring measures pronunciation and oral fluency, not whether you sound British or American. Speaking steadily without long pauses matters far more than accent.
Tasks score across sections
Summarise spoken text contributes to both listening and writing. Weak writing therefore drags down a listening score, which surprises most first-time candidates.
Never stop mid-answer
The recording stops after three seconds of silence. A pause to think can end your response before you have finished it.
Practise on a computer, with a headset
The whole test is delivered on screen with a microphone. Practising on paper prepares you for a different exam.
